At this time, the Halifax Port Authority (“HPA”) requires:

CUSTOMER & VENDOR SERVICES COORDINATOR (PART-TIME) ( TEMPORARY 3 MONTHS)

Reports to the Team Lead, Farmers’ Market. The Customer & Vendor Services Coordinator provides direct support to the Team Lead, Farmers’ Market by performing customer and vendor services on Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market facilities, following safety regulations, and performing other related duties.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Maintenance

  • Carries out and performs day-to-day customer service and custodial duties to maintain the Halifax Farmers’ Market facility in a clean and safe operating condition.
  • Sets up the Market floor for Market Day(s) and Events and moves furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Cleans all public areas of the Market, both interior and exterior, including washrooms as necessary.
  • Performs related duties as follows: waste management and cleaning duties, recycling, minor repairs, and common area lighting.
  • Assists in snow removal operations by shoveling and clearing snow from the sidewalks and entrances.
  • Moves furniture/boxes as required and performs light maintenance of Market assets.

Market Operations

  • Designates and monitors vendor spaces under established guidelines.
  • Ensures continuous cooperation with vendors, customers, management, and others.
  • Mediate disputes amongst vendors.
  • Ensures appropriate use of market assets, equipment, and spaces by vendors, customer, and others.
  • Manages and maintains Automatic Teller Machine:
    • Familiar with ATM functions and general maintenance.
    • Trouble shoot technical operations and engage service personnel when required

Other

  • Work three days per week (i.e., 24 hours per week).
  • Required to work at the Market on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
  • Informs supervisor of defective equipment or equipment needing repair.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations/measures while performing job; and reports all accidents to supervisor.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as required and ensures health and safety issues are addressed.
  • Collects appropriate records for maintenance logs for fire extinguishers, door checks, and others.
  • Ensures the market is secure as possible.

NOTE: These are only the basic and primary duties; related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the Operation of the Farmers’ Market.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)

  • Minimum Grade ten (10) education with two (2) years’ experience is required.
  • Must be able to work in situations requiring heavy lifting and be able to undertake the physical activity as outlined.
  • General knowledge of environmental regulations as they apply to the position is required.
  • Must have self-directing and have strong decision-making skills.
  • Must have good organizational, communication, problem-solving skills, and can work with minimal supervision.
  • Works well under pressure and maintains composure and objectivity always.
  • Ability to maintain cooperation and excellent working relationships with coworkers and other departments, vendors, clients, customers, companies, and others.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings and outside during inclement weather.
  • Must also be able to work in situations that require heavy lifting.
