Our client in the steel fabrication industry is seeking a Lead Hand/Operator to join their team. In this role, you’ll be providing crucial afternoon shift leadership, operating machinery, and ensure that overall quality control processes are being met.
 
Job Title: Lead Hand/Operator
Location: Langley, B.C.
Pay Range: $25 to $30 per hour plus $1 to $3 hourly premium for lead hand responsibilities

What’s the Job?

  • Oversee and safely lead the afternoon shift (Monday to Friday 1:45pm – 9:45pm) ensuring targets for the day and week are met. 
  • Operating various machines (after training) including overhead cranes, forklift, Rebar shear, rebar bender, and auto benders
  • Daily reporting of shift performance to the Production Supervisor
  • Assisting process control and machine operators in performing their duties as needed
  • Ensure all company QC and QA processes are met or exceeded. 
  • Ensure a clean work area and all equipment used by operators 
  • Provide leadership on shift to address any safety concerns and ensure that the site is secured at the end of the shift 
  • Communicate with the maintenance dept should breakdowns occur on shift 
  • Any additional duties as assigned 

What’s Needed?

  • Minimum of 2 years previous supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience dealing with health and safety issues, preparing incident documentation is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a rebar fabrication is an asset.
  • Work the following schedule: Monday to Friday 1:45pm – 9:45pm, plus overtime as required.
  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment is a must.
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
  • Approved safety footwear is required.
  • Experience in the construction industry is considered an asset.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and provide motivation to achieve targets.
  • Ability to lift up to 23kg (50lbs).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Hand-eye Coordination, attention to detail and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
