Our client in the sheet metal industry is seeking a Paint Shop Supervisor to join their team. In this exciting opportunity, you will be a key supervisory figure that fosters a positive team environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in powder coating processes, team management, and quality control.
 
Job Title: Paint Shop Supervisor
Location: Port Coquitlam, B.C.
Pay Range: $31 to $38 per hour (negotiable depending on experience)

What’s the Job?

  • Oversee all stages of the powder coating process, including masking/demasking, pre-treatment, dry-off, powder application, curing, and final inspection.
  • Manage daily operations to ensure timely completion of production schedules while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure that pre-treatment, powder application, and curing processes meet established specifications.
  • Conduct regular inspections and tests of coated parts for adhesion and finish quality.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Department to implement testing procedures and resolve any quality issues.
  • Monitor chemical concentrations, rinse water quality, and other factors affecting pre-treatment to minimize rejects.
  • Lead and mentor a team of production workers and powder coaters/painters, ensuring they are trained in powder coating techniques, safety practices, and quality standards.
  • Develop training programs for new hires and ongoing development for existing staff.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all paint shop equipment, including spray washers, ovens, and powder application systems.
  • Enforce safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with WorkSafe BC and company policies.
  • Identify areas for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Improve on the line density and more use of the automation.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare and present reports on production performance, quality metrics, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Work closely with other production departments, including Quality Assurance and Maintenance, to ensure seamless operations.
  • Engage with suppliers to procure necessary materials and equipment for the paint shop.

What’s Needed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Prior experience in a powder coating environment, with some leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of powder coating processes and equipment.
  • Familiarity with chemical properties and safety protocols related to pre-treatment and powder application.
  • Proficiency in quality inspection methods and techniques.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in making informed decisions that drive operational success and support team dynamics.
  • Strong sense of ownership in team outcomes, promoting a culture of responsibility and collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
