The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Coordinator, Port & Site Services to join our Operational Services team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation.
This is a permanent on-site/hybrid position, working a 2 week on, 2 week off rotation at our Voisey’s Bay Mine Site.
The Senior Coordinator, Port & Site Services oversees and administers the site services contracts which is critical to the Voisey’s Bay mine site. Responsibilities for tasks and areas include all aspects of port operations including concentrate transportation from Mill bunkers to Port and other destinations, fuel off-loading and storage, container and break-bulk loading/off-loading, and the oversight of all shipping related commitments. Key accountability is ensuring accurate information on shipping related communications to local communities and other stakeholders. The Sr. Coordinator, Site Services is also responsible for the planning and coordinating the movement of concentrate from the mine site to Quebec and Long Harbour and for the resupply of freight and fuel. Other key accountability for this position is the delivery of support services such as freight delivery, people movement, waste disposal, clean water production and road maintenance to the mine site and the overseeing and administration of the contracts that support these services.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Implement the Health, Safety and Environment System as designed and will provide leadership in these areas. The incumbent will work collaboratively with contractor supervisors to ensure the purpose of this position is met.
- Prepare/update standard operating procedures to ensure safe and effective operation of facilities and equipment including procedures for shipping related activities with both contractors and VNL employees. Ensure all employees are familiar with those procedure while developing and maintaining a detailed personal understanding of those procedures.
- Work to ensure the cost, quality and schedule of shipping, port and associated operations are optimized in the interests of Vale.
- Ensure IBA and shipping Agreement commitments to local aboriginal groups and communities are met, including effective communications activities to ensure they are informed of marine operations and changes in scheduled on a timely basis.
- Organize the preparation of TML samples for assay in Quebec City and elsewhere as required. Ensure certification preparation and then concentrate samples are taken and delivered to the mill lab for assays during the ship loading. Ensure assays get to the required destination in a timely manner.
- Assist with the daily and weekly administrative activities of the work group and work closely with the department Superintendent to help ensure sufficient resources are in place to get the work done in a timely and effective manner including but not limited to the following points: providing summarized monthly spreadsheets of statistics of activities involving the shipping and other departmental issues for review by the department head. Updating the website, Marine Notification and phone messages for ships scheduled arrivals and departures and route as necessary to the various stakeholders.
- Visit local communities semi-annually and provide communication to those communities, groups and stakeholders involved and impacted by shipping activities.
- Ensure all fixed and mobile equipment (including the concentrate truck/trailer fleet) maintenance needs are identified, communicated and responded to by service providers. This includes ensuring repairs, upgrades, installation and testing of port and associated equipment and systems are carried out so that they meet operational requirements.
- Provide routine administration and coordination of activities involved in the concentrate shipping contract, monitoring of the ship loading statistics taken from the DCS for tonnage reconciliation of each ship loading between ships draft survey and shore scales, the Ship’s Track Marking contract in the Anaktalak Bay shipping channel, the marine navigation aids and the DGPS. Monitor hold cleaning by Urgence Marine to ensure timely completion and long-term ships hold integrity.
- Work on various assignments as required and or directed by the department Superintendent/Manage, provide coaching and support to the site services contractors with respect to daily operations and employee engagement, and contribute to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing, mentoring and analysis support to the management team.
About You
Education:
- A diploma in a mechanical trade or relevant field is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in similar roles.
Skills:
- Well-developed mechanical knowledge & comprehension.
- Must have knowledge & understanding of Provincial and Federal Marine regulations & standards. Understanding of Marine Navigation Aids & Coast Guard/Transport Canada regulation.
