In New Brunswick, members of the public have the right to communicate with and receive services from the provincial government and most public bodies in the official language of their choice. The Commissioner of Official Languages for New Brunswick has the mandate to investigate, report on and make recommendations with regard to compliance with the Official Languages Act. The Commissioner also has the mandate to promote the advancement of both official languages in the province.

The Office of the Commissioner of New Brunswick (OCOL) is seeking an individual with a keen interest in language rights to fill the role of Office Manager / Executive Assistant.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing reception services to the public, in-person, by telephone or otherwise as necessary.
  • Managing the central telephone system.
  • Providing written responses to the public requesting information.
  • Preparing correspondence, memos, and reports for the Commissioner.
  • Managing the Commissioner’s schedule.
  • Following up on file matters as requested by the Commissioner and assisting office staff.
  • Participating in and organizing as necessary all OCOL events.
  • Preparing documents and statistics for the OCOL Annual Report.
  • Assisting in the coordination of the budget process under the direction of the Commissioner.
  • Performing accounts payable functions for the OCOL.
  • Managing purchasing on behalf of the OCOL in compliance with GNB procurement rules.
  • Submitting and receiving all translation requests.
  • Performing other related duties as required by the Commissioner.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary diploma as an administrative professional in office management or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Strong experience working with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Written and spoken competency in English and French is required.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the mandate of the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages for New Brunswick.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior government officials.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and managerial discretion.

Conditions / Compensation:

  • Salary: Pay Band 4, $2,183 to $3,196 bi-weekly (commensurate with experience and qualifications).
  • Position may require some travel within the province.
  • Location: Fredericton.

Selection process:

Candidates will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive assessment that may include testing, interview, and/or a presentation to a selection committee.
