(Contractual Position to September 6, 2025)
DUTIES
- The successful applicant will perform skilled power engineering work under the direction of the Manager of Central Utilities.
- Duties include the operation, maintenance, and repair of low-pressure steam heating plant equipment and auxiliaries; ensuring proper operation by patrolling boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, and related areas on university properties, including the Central Heating Plant, the Health Sciences Centre, Ocean Sciences Centre, GEO Centre, Core Science Facility, and Animal Resource Centre; inspecting boilers, generators, compressors, pumps, chillers, and other mechanical and electrical equipment; making necessary adjustments and repairs to equipment; maintaining a log book; inspecting and maintaining emergency power equipment; cleaning boilers and hot water heating tanks, boiler rooms, and related areas; responding to and investigating fire alarms throughout the various university properties; responding to maintenance trouble calls; inputting work orders; and performing other related duties as required.
- This position will be on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience (1-3 years) in power engineering, supplemented by experience (1-3 years) in maintenance of heating and repair services in a large building complex; graduation from high school supplemented by the successful completion of power engineering certification; possession of a valid 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate, a valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract, as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, are required.
SALARY $31.18 – $36.23 per hour (NAPE Local 7801)
- An upscale hiring step will apply to this position (Step 2)
- Plus market differential of $2.00 per hour
