Salary: $25.14 per hour

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, Facilities and Ancillary Services, the Custodian is responsible for the mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of heating and building systems at NBCC, St. Andrews campus.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Making adjustments and minor repairs to boilers, pumps, ventilation and AC systems, and other equipment
  • Ensuring the safe operation of a high- or low-pressure heating system involving boilers
  • Using automated and computerized equipment (e.g. Energy Management Controls System – EMCS)
  • Cleaning and maintaining boilers, boiler room, and related equipment
  • Performing minor plumbing, painting or carpentry related to the heating and ventilation systems
  • Keeping records of fuel consumption and steam produced and ensuring sufficient fuel is on hand
  • Complete filter inspections and replacement on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Performing related work as required including some maintenance, repair and utility work.

Regular hours of work are based on a 40-hour work week. Additional overtime and weekend work may be required. This position may require shift work.

These job duties represent only the basic duties of the job. Related and allied duties may be assigned as they become necessary to the operation of NBCC. Employees must have basic computer skills including word processing, email and data entry.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of high school or GED
  • Possession of a valid fourth-class power engineer’s license.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with at least 1 year of recent experience in heating, ventilation and building and mechanical systems maintenance is required.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with a certificate or diploma in Power Engineering Technology, Building Systems or Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and experience in computerized building system software.
  • Highly flexible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate and build relationships effectively throughout the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
