General Maintenance Workers – Competitive Salary – Mon to Fri

SALARY: Payband G, starting rate $33.55 per hour;
HOURS: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm; 40 hours a week;
STATUS: Temporary Support.
Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled manual tasks and duties in support of various general maintenance services provided by the Facilities Management Department but not limited to plumbing, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical that may include, installs, repairs, to maintain building components and equipment, utilizing power and hand tools, on any of the College Campuses provided.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinates, acting as point of contact and organizing service providers and acquiring quotes, procure resources and getting approval to proceed from respective management, for needed contractors called by facilities or other departments to provide various services to the college:
Verifies college policies regarding the contracted work are communicated and followed.
Communicates and confirms health and safety procedures and scope of work are followed by contractors accessing the college and executing the work in the college environment.
Communicates the affected areas within the college, such as security, department heads, staff and the student body, as required.
Procures resources such as components for building operations and arranges installation when needed.
Schedules contractor work and changes as needed to accommodate staff and students with minimal disruptions.
Provides plumbing, mechanical, and electrical maintenance and repairs (emergency and preventative), as requested and required to college facilities by:
Troubleshoots light issues such as changing lights.
Assists with repairs in cooling tower maintenance and cleaning.
Restores power through troubleshooting different parts of the system (breakers, receptacles & etc.).
Installs and repairs of locks, hinges & door closures.
Provides skilled trades as requested and required to perform repairs or other duties, e.g., changing filters or fan belts, preparing HVAC systems for operation or winterization.
Performs various duties to maintain college facilities including work associated with carpentry, masonry, painting, and assisting with mechanical and electrical.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Attributes:
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute own work.
Must adhere to policies and procedures as set out in various manuals, i.e., safety information (WHIMIS), Building Codes, material, and equipment specifications, etc.
Good judgment and accuracy; attention to detail and safety.
Ability to stoop, bend and work in tight spaces; ability to lift over 20 kg or 44 lbs. (i.e., machinery components, motors, ladders etc.).
Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
