Higher Talent is currently seeking passionate and collaborative strategic candidates for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for our client, WRDC (Women in Resource Development Corporation) located in St. John’s, NL.

For over 25 years WRDC has been an incubator for change. Creating a local, diverse and skilled workforce while supporting employers, industries, and sectors in their efforts to create and maintain inclusive workplaces. Created in 1997, WRDC is a provincial non-profit organization committed to increasing women’s participation in trades and technology. With private and public funding, WRDC offers a variety of programs and services to address the challenges surrounding the attraction, recruitment, retention and advancement of women in these careers. Our charitable arm, the Educational Resource Centre (ERC), was created in 2002, to provide hands-on learning and career exploration opportunities for younger women and girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides passionate, executive leadership, and management of the organization’s strategic plan, project administration, programs and services, and plays a vital role in assuring WRDC’s success within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The CEO is a strategic and collaborative leader who is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management, operations, resources, and growth for WRDC. This includes ensuring financial sustainability of the relationships and partnerships, building capacity among team members and ensuring effective program delivery, overseeing responsible financial management and administration, and support effect governance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership and Board Governance: Collaborates with the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide WRDC in the development and execution of long-term and short-term goals and objectives for growth and sustainability. Establish regular and ongoing communication by providing information necessary for Board Members to make informed decisions, awareness of risks and issues, including celebration of successes.
  • Financial Management and Fund Development: Oversee the sound financial management of the organization to ensure its long-term sustainability. Maintain and develop varied funding opportunities across sectors including government, private and philanthropic, and revenue generation initiatives to ensure a diverse and strong financial foundation for the organization.   • Public Relations and Partnership Development: Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative of WRDC, advocating for the advancement of women in trades and technology. Partnership development and relationship management with key stakeholders including funders, government, agencies, industry, champions, etc.
  • Human Resource Management and Team Leadership: Build, lead, and coach a team of professionals in an environment where diversity, inclusion, and empowerment supports an innovative approach to advancing women in trades and technology. Develop and implement all related HR management policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Operations and Program Management: Leads and directs the organization’s operational plans, programs, services, team members, including the analysis and evaluation of programs and services that promote the organization’s mission.   • Risk Management: Identify, assess, monitor, and limit risk exposure associated with financial, operational, cybersecurity, and reputational challenges through implementation of strategies to minimize or mitigate their impact on the organization.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Education and Training: Post secondary degree/diploma or other relevant education and training. Project Management training would be considered an asset.
  • Leadership Experience: Strong business acumen and a history of providing visionary leadership at the executive level in an evolving business and/or not-for profit environment. Experience in the trades and technology sector would be considered an asset.
  • Strategic and Visionary Thinking: Growth mindset with the ability to translate vision into common language to motivate, collaborate, and inspire others.
  • Fund Development: Advanced understanding of government / project funding, proposal writing, economic development and sector initiatives within Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Action Oriented and Influence: Develop and execute realistic operational plans and budgets, identify resources needed, and delegation of clear accountability for deliverables. Passionate and empathetic while giving confidence and building trust in others.
  • Change Management: Accept change and adapt to priorities, looking for new or better ways of doing things while creating a learning environment that leads to efficient and effective processes.
  • Collaboration and Diplomacy: Exhibit professional diplomacy and can deliver clear, effective, and respectful communication, including taking responsibility for understanding others by establishing productive and collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Relationship Building: Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship development skills to effectively build a high performing team and develop strong external stakeholder relationships by establishing productive, nurturing, and high trust relations.
  • Planning and Prioritization: Plan and organize work activities, multi-task, prioritize, and juggle complex tasks and multiple projects by using available resources to get more done with less.
  • Decision Maker: Take into consideration a broad range of issues and factors, obtain information, and identify key issues to make informed and objective decisions in a timely manner. Anticipate, plan, and exercise sound judgment while making timely and quality decisions.
  • DEI: Demonstrates a strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices as it pertains to our mandate, aligned with our values, and promotes this commitment to DEI both internally through our operations and externally to stakeholders.
