Auto Mechanic
Under the direction of the Logistics Supervisor and with guidance from the Red Seal Mechanic, the incumbent is responsible for performing mechanical inspections, repairs, and maintenance of heavy equipment, vehicles, and other mechanical equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles, and brake systems, to locate faults and malfunctions
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings to determine whether to repair or replace the unit
- Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools
- Test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance
- Complete reports to record problems and work performed
- Must fully participate in the safety assessment of the job and completion of JSA’s
Qualifications
- Enrolled in the Automotive Service Technician program
- Preferred: 3rd-year apprentice
- Proven knowledge of vehicle and heavy equipment mechanics, machinery, and tools
- Proficient in troubleshooting
- Capable of safely operating tools and equipment
- Strong ability to follow instructions, adhere to guidelines, and exercise good judgment
- Effective in both team settings and independent work
- Positive attitude with a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn
- Committed to adhering to company safety policies and procedures
Physical Demands
- Regularly lifts/moves objects up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifts/moves >50lbs. Push/Pulling forces up to 50 lbs are required.
- Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching, bending, and twisting; regular standing, walking, and climbing.
- Use of gross and fine motor skills; constant use of hand tools that require accurate control and steadiness and maintaining physical balance (e.g. Ladders/scaffolding).
- Work environments can present exposure to loud noises or environmental hazards.
