Position Details
Context: The Eastern Region maintains and supports approximately 3,500 NL Housing rental properties on the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas through offices in St. John’s (Avalon) and Marystown. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations including eviction prevention, and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. A variety of programs designed to support low to moderate income households and homeowners are also delivered. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.
Duties: This position will perform carpentry duties at the Journeyperson level; oversee and direct the work of employees engaged in the Modernization and Improvement project sites; establish daily work priorities for subordinate staff; provide guidance and direct staff regarding methods/procedures and schedules for timely completion of work; monitor daily work activity to identify fluctuations in quantity and volume; be responsible for on-site inventory delivery ensuring reconciliation of requested supplies; monitor daily issue and usage of all tools and equipment; assist the Field Supervisor in implementing all safe work practices and procedures. The successful applicant must be willing and able to supervise and mentor an Apprentice.
Criteria
Screening Criteria:
- Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification in the Carpentry Trade
- Experience in residential carpentry work
Assessment Criteria:
- Knowledge of National Building Code of Canada
- Knowledge of materials and methods of the carpentry trade
- Knowledge of painting and plastering techniques and best practices
- Knowledge of safe work practices
- Ability to effectively exchange information
- Ability to document work completed
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to manage time and tasks
- Client service orientation
Conditions of Employment
Conditions of Offer:
- Valid Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry issues by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador or proof of Interprovincial (Red Seal) Journeyperson status

Conditions of Acceptance:
- Acknowledges the requirement for day travel (constant)
- Acknowledged requirement for overnight travel (periodic)
- Use of private vehicle with business insurance

- Acknowledges requirement for heavy lifting (greater than 50 lb)
