The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Automation & Control Systems Superintendent to join our Fixed Plant Maintenance team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation.
This is a permanent on-site position, working a 1 week on/1 week off rotation at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site.
As an Automation & Control Systems Superintendent, you will lead the Automation and Control team within the Voisey’s Bay Operations. This will involve maintaining/improving the Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and the integrated DCS & PLC Networks. Some duties will include commissioning support, interfacing with process engineers, interfacing with package vendors, control loop tuning and logic/HMI modifications.
The position is expected to demonstrate flexibility by taking on multifunctional roles that include a production or operational assignment, team administrational duties, championing specific assignments, and remote support.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Provide recommendations to continually improve DCS, PLC and plant performance in terms of process control.
- Take ownership of the controls & automation requirements for plant-wide process systems and mines.
- Be responsible for the direct supervision, development and administration of Automation and Control teams consisting of up to 4-5 direct employees or contractors.
- Lead design for Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) improvement initiatives, develops scope for system changes, and determines technical and economic viability of various options for projects.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the department (alarm management, big data analysis, bypasses and software modifications management).
- Support commissioning of equipment as part of ongoing capital improvement projects.
About You
Education:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering combined with a Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.), an Engineering Technology Diploma, or a certified Red Seal designation in Instrumentation.
Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years experience in Industrial Automation & Control Systems combined with a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
Skills:
- Knowledge of Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell PLC.
- Proven leadership capabilities.
- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
