Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing…
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities at Ivany Campus:
- You are accountable to assist the Facilities Manager in the facilities’ operations including maintaining the buildings, equipment, grounds of the Campus, health, safety, cleanliness, appearance, and physical security standards associated with a public post-secondary educational institution.
- The Ivany Campus is home to over 3000 NSCC and apprenticeship students and over three hundred employees. The campus is 386,000 sq. ft and consisting of forty-five classrooms and over fifty shops/labs. In 2024, new student housing will be opened including 96,000 sq. ft. with 200 occupant capacity. You will model exceptional service standards for employees, students, and guests at the campus.
- Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, you will supervise all unionized custodial staff and their work assignments. You are responsible for creating and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient learning and working environment for all Ivany Campus facilities.
- You will provide a leadership role within the entire Facilities Team by providing oversight in the absence of the Facilities Manager. You will be knowledgeable on all aspects of Ivany Campus facility and custodial operations to maintain operational, service and safety standards when the Facilities Manager is not available.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is graduation from a recognized training program related to Building Services Technology in one or more of the following:
- Certified Engineering Technologist
- 3rd Class Power Engineer
- Certification Plumbing & Heating, Electrical or Building Related Trade
- Building Environmental Systems Certificate
- BMA Accreditation
- You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in leading a team in facilities maintenance or building operations setting.
- Demonstrated experience in Preventative Maintenance.
- Knowledge and experience in Occupational Health & Safety Policy, Standards and Compliance.
- Knowledge of existing safety laws, rules, methods and procedures including applicable Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations to ensure the safety of staff, students, and building occupants.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and E-mail.
- Experience working in a unionized work environment would be considered an asset.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
