  • DUTIES
  • The Senior Administrative Officer (SAO) acts as senior staff advisor to the Dean on all administrative, operational and financial matters critical to the faculty. As such, the SAO will provide proactive administrative leadership and support to the Faculty of Education in strategic administrative planning, management and optimal resource allocation ensuring that academic strategies are supported. The SAO is accountable for the management and leadership of academic support services within the faculty, thereby assisting the Dean and Associates Deans in supporting decisions relating to academic matters.
  • Overseeing the financial management and budget allocation; managing the administrative processes, supporting academic recruitment and appointments; planning and implementing the faculty communications strategy in coordination with the communications advisor; recruiting, supervising and managing staff, including performance evaluation, conflict resolution, business processes and change management; preparing submissions to the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) including recommendations of staffing requirements and structures, space requirements and status reports; representing the Dean on various committees and working groups; developing proposals to facilitate the administrative planning and implementation of strategic objectives, including the accreditation review process; overseeing the faculty’s facilities and equipment; monitoring faculty policies, ensuring that university administrative policies and procedures are followed; establishing efficient and effective practices and procedures in providing support services to the academic and outreach functions; reviewing, advising on, and managing a range of special projects and liaising with the professional community on related activities; establishing and maintaining relationships with university administrative departments, including related Directors, administrative colleagues in other academic units, the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), as well as external organizations; developing and establishing relationships with faculty, staff, students and the external community in the discussion, mediation, consensus building and decision making regarding faculty operational requirements; and performing other related duties as required and delegated by the Dean.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Considerable experience (5-7 years) in progressively responsible administrative management positions preferably in an academic or public administration environment; completion of an undergraduate degree supplemented by a master’s degree, preferably in business or other related area; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Management skills including planning, negotiating and problem solving, effective communication and interpersonal skills, conflict resolution as well as strong organizational skills are necessary to be successful in this role. Strong financial management and budgeting skills, as well as experience in human resources policy and procedure application; the ability to negotiate administrative and financial matters; and familiarity with the latest IT technology or solutions are also required. Knowledge of the Faculty of Education including its overall goals and mission and their fit with the university’s strategic plan, Transforming our Horizons, is considered an asset.

SALARY $80,801 – $103,465 per annum (Management and Professional)
