Temporary Planning and Building Technologist

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Development Officer, the Planning and Building Technologist will serve as a Permit Technician for both the Planning and Building Inspection Departments. This position is responsible for providing essential front-line customer service for the departments by answering inquires for information concerning policies, application procedures, and other general information. This is a temporary position until February with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the public on permit requirements and the Town’s application process.
  • Issue and accept permit applications; review applications for completeness and accuracy; and calculate all appropriate fees.
  • Verify contactors’ licenses and insurance coverage.
  • Review and assist with platting submittals.
  • Schedule inspections, generate reports and maintain related files and databases by utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Position Systems (GPS) technology in the completion of fieldwork and permit follow-up inspections.
  • Follow-up inspections on Development Permits to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the permit.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Post secondary diploma in Planning, Civil Engineering or GIS Technology.
  • A minimum of three (3) years relative experience, with a preference of Municipal experience;
  • Professional Engineering Technologist (PTech), Certified Engineering Technologist or Technician (CET) designation and member of the New Brunswick Society of Engineering Technicians and Technologist or a member of the Atlantic Association of Planning Technicians, or eligible to obtain designation.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with an abstract meeting the Town’s expectation.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
