Salary range: $ 39,545.37 to $ 41,315.05 annually (pro-rated based on part-time hours)

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing…

  • As a member of the campus Cafeteria team, the Food Services Assistant will be responsible for:
  • Assembling and serving food,
  • Preparation of baked items,
  • Maintaining displays,
  • Cashiering and
  • Cleaning of cafeteria dishes, utensils, equipment and the overall cafeteria space.
  • You will also perform other duties as required.
  • This position works closely with other members of the Cafeteria staff and other campus programs.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED). In addition, you have successfully completed or are prepared to take and pass the Food Handlers’ Course, training in WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety regulations and an Emergency First Aid (with CPR) course. A recognized cooking designation would be considered an asset.
  • This is an entry-level position. We welcome applications from recent graduates.
  • The incumbent will possess the following:
    • Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills

    • Able to perform basic cooking tasks using microwaves, grill fryers, steamers, ovens, knives, coffee makers, blenders and toasters
    • Basic math skills
    • Accurate in cash handling
    • Judgement and decision making in escalating inquiries
    • Bondable
    • Able to lift heavy weights and stand for long periods of time
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, and typical food service industry point of sale systems.
  • You have demonstrated experience providing basic cafeteria maintenance duties (e.g. general, preventative, or scheduled cafeteria maintenance duties, such as cleaning oil fryers, grills, ovens, etc.)
  • You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in a food service kitchen (e.g. operating equipment, inventory control, performing audits, etc.)
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to food service (e.g. coordinating services, work, events, logistics, etc.)
  • You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in customer service and teamwork
  • Baking experience will be considered an asset
  • Experience working in a cafeteria will be considered an asset
  • Cashiering experience will be considered an asset.
