PMM seeks voice instructors starting September 1st, 2024!

Pleasant Mountain Music

Learn to Play. Love to Play. Live to Play. at Pleasant Mountain Music.

Pleasant Mountain Music is a boutique music lessons studio located in the trendy South Granville neighbourhood of Vancouver, BC. We are ALSO located in the homes of students across Metro-Vancouver: and we seek additional teachers to join our studio AND in-home lesson team!

PMM has set ourselves apart by offering high quality vocal training in Musical Theatre, Contemporary voice, Heavy Metal, and songwriting. We have had extremely strong showings at Kiwanis music festival, and sold out 2 of 4 shows for our very first Musical Theatre ensemble (which performed Beauty and the Beast). We’ve featured original works at the Khatsahlano festival in 2024, and will showcase even more students (doing a variety of original and cover songs) at Tree’s Organic Coffee this month (check us out on July 19 if you’re near 450 Granville Street). We have not one but TWO heavy metal Choirs (an intermediate-advanced Chamber Choir, and a beginner-friendly Choir). We’ve also hosted Workshops and Clinics to develop several technical aspects to singing, including “no such thing as tone-deaf”, Belting for Youth, Belting for Teens, Exreme Vocals, and Embodied Voice.

On the heals of an extremely successful 2023-2024 season, we have a high demand for skilled vocalists excited to work with a variety of ages and skillsets, from very beginner, to advanced students, ages 5 to 85! We believe our success stems from our 3 streams of study, which students can move freely between as they mature and learn their instrument. Our Live to Play stream of study encourages students of any age to find their voice, and to sing as a lifelong activity to enjoy. Our Learn to Play stream is where most students will embark on their music journey to understand the skill and technique of singing. And finally, our Love to Play stream is dedicated to graduating professional musicians into the music biz, as performers, songwriters, recording artists, session musicians, music teachers, and more!

This summer we are interviewing 1-3 instructors to join our growing team:
– We seek a vocalist with Classical Training (who will work not only with their own students, but also be tasked with helping our contemporary vocalists tap into the classical stylings) who also is comfortable/enthusiastic with instructing other genres
– We seek a vocalist with any background (jazz, classical, musical theatre etc…) with a specialty in extreme vocals
– Ideally one of the vocal instructors we hire is also able to/enthusiastic about instructing a secondary instrument (such as ukulele, guitar, piano, or a wind instrument)
– We seek a travelling instructor for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays
– We seek instructors for lessons at our studio on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.

If you enjoy the freedom of setting your hours, and meeting truly wonderful families and students, this is the job for you! Check out our website to learn more about our studio philosophy https://www.pleasantmountainmusic.ca

Teaching rate is between $42-$48/hour (depending on experience/training) and teachers are paid an additional $8.00 per home-visit to cover travel costs. We also offer a very limited number of Junior Instructor positions every season for recently graduated college/university students. This is a contracted position starting asap or September 1, 2024. Contracts renew yearly on September 1st.
