Communications Technician
Regular Full-time, 40 hours/week NSGEU Position

The Communication Technician (CT) is responsible for the installation and maintenance of structured cabling systems within the schools of the Chignecto Central Regional Centre of Education (CCRCE). The CT must be able to troubleshoot phone lines and networks using the tools provided. A CT ensures structured cabling is installed and organized according to the policies of the CCRCE IT Department while ensuring that fire marshal regulations are being adhered to. The CT will support CCRCE stakeholders with phones (Centrex Analog/Digital as well as VOIP), LCD projector installation and the calibration of SMART Boards, Mimio Board, and presentation systems. Working from heights to installed repair and replace Access Points, CCTV cameras and LCD projectors. Appropriate use of materials and resources.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Successful completion of High school diploma or equivalent
  • Recognized Structure Cabling certificate ex: BISCI, Communications Cabling Specialist
  • Proficient in the installation and diagnosis and repair of Multimedia projectors, Structured Cabling (network and telecom), Intercom, CCTV Camera, Wireless Network Access Point installation.
  • Installation of SMART Boards, Mimio boards, LCD Projectors,
  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN technology including wireless networks
  • Experience with ticket system recording accurate time, materials, and excellent written and logical troubleshooting steps
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties (driving, standing, ladders, walking, climbing, lifting, working above head).
  • Valid driver´s license and reliable vehicle.
  • Fire Stop Training

  • Experience and knowledge of technology in education including Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Teams
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to design, plan and optimize cabling layouts
  • Ability to understand architectural drawings
  • Elevated Work Platform Certificate
  • Fall Protection
  • First Aid
  • WHMIS
  • Certified to install conduit and electrical circuit
  • Experience with Fiber Optic cables
