Help someone with sight loss in HRM!

CNIB

Living without sight can be hard, but people do it every day. Sometimes it’s easier to have a friend come and help with some of those daily sighted tasks that we take for granted. CNIB is looking to provide that assistance.

Our Vision Mate program matches volunteers with people with sight loss to help for a couple of hours a week. Training is provided and volunteers are screened before they are matched.

We are currently seeking assistance for the following people:

Elizabeth, in her 40s and living in Spryfield, likes crocheting, baking, arts, reading, internet, working with her hands, and petting her cat. She is looking for a female around her age to help her with organizing, going for walks, knitting, making soap, and crafting during afternoons.

Mark, in his 60s and living in Spryfield, is looking for a volunteer to help him get groceries, go for slow walks, and read on Saturday afternoons. He enjoys going for coffee and drives. He says that he can be a little shy at first but quickly moves past this.

Robert, in his 50s and living in Spryfield, is eager to get moving and out of the house. He is very chatty, pleasant, and kind. Robert was an engineer who worked in breweries. He enjoys talking, going to the park and walking, hiking, cooking, and doing some woodworking. He currently lives with his sister and loves dogs.

Manon, in her 70s and living in Halifax, resides in a senior’s center and can’t leave unless accompanied as she’s in a wheelchair. She’s looking for a volunteer who could drive her to go shopping for groceries and clothing. Manon enjoys listening to audiobooks and music.

Cathy, in her 60s and living in Halifax, is looking for a female volunteer who’d be available in the afternoon or evening to help with paper crafting and perhaps more things in the future. She is a non-smoker who lives in a house with her husband and small poodle.
