The Union Club, a Private Members’ Club in Saint John, is looking for a skilled Lead Server to join our team! This is a full-time position with competitive wage.
The Lead Server, reporting directly to the General Manager, is a key position within our Club, creating the private member experience with their style and service attributes. If you have experience as a server in a fine dining restaurant, we’d love to hear from you.
The right server uplifts the dining experience for our members and guests. We are looking for someone who will have the patience, personality and perseverance to thrive in this role.
Server responsibilities include greeting and serving our members and guests, providing detailed information on menus, multi-tasking various front-of-the-house duties, bartending, setting up for various meals and functions, light housekeeping as required. You should also be a team player and be able to effectively communicate with our Kitchen Staff to make sure orders are accurate and delivered promptly.
Keep in mind that server’s duties may require working in shifts and/or during weekends and holidays. Ultimately, it is the duty of our server to provide an excellent overall dining experience for our members and guests.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge is power: answer questions about food, beverage, wine and other restaurant functions and services
• Anticipate guest needs: replenish cutlery, refill glasses, fold napkins, stay on top of table maintenance

• Work safely; monitor the cleanliness of your section and ensure all material and areas are safe and free from clutter
• Due to the nature of a private club environment confidentiality, discretion and respectful decorum are key attributes for Union Club servers
• Ensure dining room appearance meets established standards including table linens pressed and in place, table set with appropriate place settings for meals, and wait stations tidy and containing appropriate supplies
• Ability to reinforce and main the Union Club protocols and rules (dress code, level of service
• Light Housekeeping duties such as vacuum, sweep, mop & common areas
• Meet with restaurant staff to review daily specials, changes on the menu and service specifications for reservations
• Follow all relevant health department regulations
• Provide excellent customer service to members and guests

Requirements
• Proven work experience as a server
• Hands-on experience with cash register
• Basic math skills
• Attentiveness and patience for customers
• Excellent presentation skills
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment
• Active listening and effective communication skills
• Team spirit
• Flexibility to work in shifts
• High school diploma
• Ability to work on your feet for hours at a time
• Food safety training
