Athletics East Track and Field Club is seeking a Special Projects Assistant for summer 2024!
About Athletics East
Based in Halifax, we are Nova Scotia’s biggest track and field club helping athletes aged 11 to masters, including para athletes, reach their full potential. Our programs include distance / endurance, sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws.
Athletics East Track and Field Club was formed in 2023 with the merger of Chebucto Athletics and HaliFAST.
The opportunity
We are seeking a student to help promote our awesome club and support our programs. This position requires someone keen to both roll up their sleeves track-side and dig into projects behind the scenes (e.g. online). This role is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Responsibilities

  • Event support
    • Help plan and host a mini meet.
    • Help lead a team summer celebration.
    • Lead club involvement in partner events (e.g. Athletics NS), including meets and any awareness or promotional activities.

Equipment organization/clean-up

  • Coordinate a re-organization/clean-up of equipment located in our storage building at MET Field in Lower Sackville.
  • Help organize equipment maintenance between the outdoor and indoor season.

Communications, including social media and website management

  • Attend events to gather photos, video and information for social posts.
  • Prepare content for social media, including text and graphics/visuals/video (e.g. writing and coordinating Meet the Coach Monday posts, athlete profiles, etc.).
  • Post content to social channels and engage with followers.
  • Develop standard / template responses to common inquiries to the club.
  • Expand upon the existing club FAQ document.
  • Make recommendations on and develop content for the club website.
  • If feasible: Create a short club promo video (using basic video editing software).
  • If feasible: Further develop and enhance the club website.

Research

  • Help identify new potential funding sources, including government and foundation grants and possible sponsors.
  • Prepare initial drafts of grant submissions, if opportunities arise.

Other related duties as required
Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required
  • Social media proficiency required
  • Event coordination experience an asset
  • Basic video editing skills an asset
  • Knowledge of track and field an asset
  • Website development experience an asset
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 (per the Canada Summer Job program requirements)
  • Access to transportation required
  • Access to / use of a computer and device for accessing social media required
  • Evening and weekend hours required

Children of Athletics East Board members and coaches are not eligible for this role, based on position funding requirements.Position details

  • Term: July 8 to September 6
  • Location: This position requires remote work (i.e. work from home), as well as work from the track, including during club practices and events.
  • Rate of pay: $15.20
  • Hours per week: 30 – how these hours are spread out over a week may vary depending on priorities, club practice times and other events.
  • Reporting to Head Coach, Rich Lehman and club administrators, Faith Rogers and Gillian Batten
