Position Title: Transportation Supervisor – Fleet

Reports to: Coordinator of Transportation

Employee Group: Non-Union

Location: Bridgewater Bus Garage

Start/End Dates: Indefinite Term, effective immediately

Wages: Band 7 ($63,935 to $79,919)

Job Summary: The Transportation Supervisor manages all aspects of the SSRCE fleet, making sure the vehicles are maintained in accordance with Provincial Regulations, Federal Regulations and Regional Policies as well as supervise fleet maintenance staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree (4 years) or diploma (2 years) in Business Administration or equivalent
  • Mechanical training would be an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license, Class 5 (willingness to upgrade to 2B)
  • Strong proficiency using technology, including fleet and inventory management, MS Excel, MS Word, internet and email is required
  • Experience in scheduling and supervising unionized employees is required

Task Dimensions:

  • Supervise maintenance staff in all areas of SSRCE including shop inventory clerk, mechanics, and motor vehicle body repairer. This will include completion of an annual performance appraisal for each employee.
  • Participate in the selection, interview, and training of all maintenance staff.
  • Monitor staff licensing requirements to ensure compliance with Provincial law and Regional Policy.
  • Ensure the maintenance staff are fully conversant with established standards and regulations relative to their duties.
  • Liaise with regional transportation staff to ensure the proper number of school buses needed to support scheduled runs and routes are available and compliant.
  • Liaise with regional transportation staff to ensure vehicles are delivered to shops for on time scheduled service/repair.
  • Ensure all maintenance staff provide a level of service that promotes courtesy, efficiency and safety that is consistent in the shop.
  • Create and maintain a maintenance plan each school year including a plan for the body shop, under coating, inspections, preventive maintenance checks and services.
  • Review and update the preventive maintenance program each year.
  • Monitor the purchasing of parts to ensure procurement regulations and policy are followed.
  • Liaise with the Coordinator of Transportation and the Procurement Analyst to develop an RFP or ITQ as needed, for example, outsourced undercoating.
  • Liaise with the Coordinator of Transportation to ensure all maintenance and repair process are compliant as approved by the bus manufacturer or third party engineer.
  • Manage computer maintenance systems for example, Zonar, Bus Planner Fleet, JPro and Cameras.
  • Monitor all units for cleanliness, serviceability, and security.
  • Monitor pre-trip bus inspection forms to ensure defects are promptly reported, repaired, and recorded.
  • Ensure all maintenance paperwork is filed properly and compliant.
  • Ensure all staff follow safety processes and protocols and ensure the garage is a safe working environment.
  • Manage and monitor work going out to 3rd party venders, ensuring SSRCE receives quality work staying within budget.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education requires all newly hired employees to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check. We will accept checks completed within the last 3 months.
