Youngstock Caretaker – Busy Dairy

Looking for a hardworking and detail oriented individual for a Youngstock Caretaker position. This person will be passionate about caring for babies and have a vested interest in their health and well-being.
As amazing as working with baby animals is, we will not sugar coat it – It can be a HARD job, and it is not for most people.
This position entails, but is not limited to:
– calving out cows
– following protocols in regards to newborn calves
– feeding and caring for up to 80 calves on milk
– feeding grain and water
– identifying and correctly caring for unwell animals as per SOPs
– milking fresh cows as per SOPs
– collecting, testing and processing colostrum
– a TON of CLEANING and sanitizing

Candidate Must:
– possess good time management skills
– be a team player and communicate well with others
– this job is 60% OUTSIDE, you must be OK in working in inclement Saskatchewan weather
– notice small details and be able to problem solve
– caring and compassionate: you are working with neonates
– ability to adhere to strict SOP’s and other protocols
– preferably someone OCD about staying clean and cleaning, because sanitation is of utmost importance to mitigate disease transfer.

Shifts are 10 hours and start at either 3am or 3pm.
Youngstock Caretakers are required to learn to milk as well, and may need to participate in a weekly milking shift.
Must be able to work at least every other weekend.
Must have reliable transportation – we are 10 kms from the nearest paved roads. Located 15 minutes north of Warman, 15 minutes West of Hague and 15 minutes East of Hepburn. Roughly 7 minutes from hwy 11 and 12.

This position does not require previous Dairy experience, but experience with large animals and basic understanding of the needs of livestock is required.
Wage starts at $20/hour, more experience, more $.
