Our client in the lumber mill industry is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to join their team. In this key role, you will be supporting and providing guidance on occupational health and safety initiatives to team members, as well as supporting workers as they transition back to work, and being an overall onsite authority on safety for the mill.
 
Job Title: Health and Safety Coordinator
Location: Surrey, B.C.
Pay Range: $34 to $40 per hour

What’s the Job?

  • The Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety requirements and ensure a safety culture is maintained on-site.
  • Provide guidance and support for managers and supervisors, including on-the-floor assistance.
  • WorkSafe BC Liaison, conducting inspections, requests for information and reporting as needed.
  • Administrative duties such as: new employee Orientations, updating employee Safety Handbooks, Crew talk packages, SWP updating/revising and OHS weekly, monthly, yearly reporting.
  • Disability Management Program Administration including: first aid, form 7, investigation, IM/RTW packages, communicate with employees, supervisors, medical practitioners, WSBC, payroll.
  • Safety Program Development and/or Maintenance including: Facilitate and lead monthly JHSC meetings, prepare meeting minutes, annual review of the safety program and all written procedures, safety audits, COR Program, and more.
  • Develop and provide Safe Work Procedures and training packages for various positions.
  • Travel to other sites 1-2 times annually for on-site training as required.
  • Other related duties as required. 

What’s Needed?

  • Completion of BCIT Occupational Health and Safety program or equivalent;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • OFA Level 3 certification;
  • 5 years’ prior work experience in an industrial setting, saw mill or heavy industry ideally;
  • CRSP Accreditation preferred;
  • Thorough knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office software systems;
  • Can work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team.
