Temporary Contract (Approx. 10 months) – Full Time Crisis Counsellor
Muskoka Women’s Advocacy Group is currently seeking applications for the temporary contract position of full-time Crisis Counsellor at Chrysalis in Huntsville. This position averages 36 hours per week over a 10-week schedule, with a starting rate of $22.52 per hour in accordance with the Collective Agreement. As with all our positions, duties may arise at MWAG’s other shelter in Bracebridge. The start date for this position will be a mutually agreed upon date in October, 2024 and will end mid-August, 2025.
Major Duties/ Responsibilities:
• Provide immediate and responsive crisis support services by telephone and in person to women who are survivors of violence and abuse of all types.
• Offer service users information, clarification, emotional support, practical referrals/access to community services and advocacy, as needed, for women who are survivors of abuse of any type, as well as offering support and information regarding their children.
• Provide personal accompaniment and transportation as necessary and when possible.
• Adhere to safety, security and emergency measures at all times
• Maintain and complete in a timely manner all administration requirements, including tracking, logging information, documentation, recording and reporting data.
• Provide interpersonal conflict resolution when required.
• Work independently and as a team member to ensure effective case management and service provision.
• Liaise with other relevant resources/organizations within the community.
• Participate in program planning and evaluation.
• Provide regular and periodic statistical information as required.
• Conduct intake and discharge process (including room inventory) for Muskoka Interval House and Chrysalis residents.
• Participate in and promote co-operative living (includes food preparation and house maintenance).
• Attend relevant meetings/events as required.
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Requisite Skills and Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience, preferably as a counsellor in a similar setting.
• Knowledge of the issues and complexities contained within the violence against women framework
• Experience working with women of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, socio-economic and linguistic skills.
• Experience in telephone and in-person counselling.
• Demonstrated tact, sound judgment and multi-tasking ability.
• Demonstrated personal, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
• The ability to work a variety of shifts including days, afternoons, nights and weekends is a core and essential element of this position.
• Fluency in both French and English is considered an asset.
• Valid driver’s licence, valid insurance, and reliable transportation.
