Siding Division Supervisor Job Description:

Summary:
Installation of various types of siding on various homes and commercial structures.
Installation of paper on various homes and commercial structures.
To implement, supervise and oversee all aspects of services on project sites within
the assigned service department. This includes but is not limited to project
installation, safety and customer service.
To supervise on site material, equipment and personnel to meet the project
targets, goals and objectives as set by Manager.
The Supervisor is responsible for employee’s safety.
To request, implement and supervise labourer/installer’s development and training.
Team leading including leading by example in professionalism, being
respectful/courteous, providing direction and guidance, understanding the
strengths and weaknesses of team members, motivating the team, problem
solving, upholding the vision of the group, providing great customer service and a
good work ethic.

Experience:
Required: 2 or more years technical experience in installation role and 1
year in a supervisory role.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Ability to pay close attention to detail.
Must be able to effectively communicate with employees of varying
education levels and different languages.
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to guide, direct, and coordinate up to eight employees.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, safety practices/procedures manual.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using
whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; geometry skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and
external customers.
Ability to utilize materials with minimal waste.
Ability to multitask without compromising quality of work.
Ability to read and understand blueprints and details to perform the job in
accordance.
Ability to use power tools and other equipment to install siding to the face of
a building.
Ability to work from heights and/or on ladders.
Measuring, cutting, preparing materials for assembly and installing of same.
Ability to work with various metal claddings including garage cladding, metal
flashings, post claddings.
Ability to install siding within manufacturer’s guidelines.
Ability to install air barriers, rain screens, insulation and strapping as per
wall type.

Physical:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be
met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Body Movements: The employee must have a full range of body
movements including the use of his/her hands to handle and feel objects.
Must demonstrate agility and keen sense of balance while working at
various heights. Must be able to work in confined spaces comfortably.
Body Senses: The employee must have command of at least four senses:
sight, hearing, touch and smell. Specific close vision and the ability to adjust
focus. Depth Perception, Clear Vision at 20 feet.
Strength: The employee must have the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions:
This position will be working both outdoors and indoors, encounters
temperatures that range from –35 to 40 degrees Celsius, all types of
weather conditions including snow, hail, rain and sun in muddy/dirty
conditions while working at a site (if applicable).
Typical hours start at 7:00 AM for minimum 8.5 hours a day.
Mandatory 1 hour break required per 8.5 hour working day. 30 minutes
unpaid, 30 minutes paid if 8 hours are worked. If it is less than an 8 hour
work day, these breaks will be unpaid. Breaks may be split into two 30
minute breaks or combined into one 1 hour break based on Supervisor’s
discretion.
Typical clock in time for out of town work is from the exit highway off of the
perimeter highway onward to site and back to perimeter entry highway.
The normal driving conditions/hazards will apply. Travel will be in all types
of weather including heavy rain and below freezing temperatures with snow
conditions.

Authority:
The Supervisor receives authority from the Manager as necessary to run the
department’s onsite service operations. Such authority includes:
Supervises and monitors as necessary, all on site operations and customer
activities; including installation, field personnel delegation, equipment repair
and maintenance and recommendation to the Manager for departmental
facility refurbishment and replacement.
Assist in setting service quality control standards in conjunction with the
Manager.
Control labor hours and material usage on the customer site(s).
Authority to organize, discipline, direct, coordinate and evaluate the
labourer/installers. The Supervisor in conjunction with the manager must
assess and report on hiring, promotion and termination of labourer/installer.
Authority to strictly enforce Company’s policies and procedures both in the
shop area and at sites.
Authority to prepare task and duty lists for the all labourer/installers, when
and where appropriate, subject to final approval of the Manager.
Authority to manage conflict in a professional matter.
Does not have the authority to terminate employees.

Responsibility & Duties:

Project Preparation:
Ensure stock of common materials and tools.
Load and empty trailers at the beginning and end of every day; ensure
trailers are locked at the end of the day (if applicable).
Load appropriate project material (If required to load material at L&A
shop, loading time is paid up to 30 minutes.)

Truck Care & Maintenance:
Maintain and monitor a well-kept clean vehicle both inside and out.
Daily walk around and complete/submit weekly vehicle inspection on Site
Docs if you are assigned a company vehicle.
Communicating with management if your company vehicle requires
maintenance and getting maintenance performed regularly/as required (oil
changes and car washes) to keep the vehicle in good condition after hours.
All company vehicle maintenance costs to be paid via L&A fleet card.
Submitting pictures of all Esso Mobil fuel receipts to Company Vehicles
WhatsApp group chat with your division written on the receipt (D3 Siding).

Ensure Health & Safety Standards Are Followed:
Perform all duties in accordance with L&A safe work practices/procedures,
and in accordance to Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulation
(provincial and federal).
Enforce and ensure that all safety rules and protocols are being followed at
all times (as the Supervisor, you are liable for the safety of your team).
Ensure all staff wear safety clothing at all times (high visibility clothing, hard
hats, steel toe boots).
Ensure company personal protective equipment (PPE) policy is followed.
Complete all required daily/weekly/monthly safety paperwork and
submitting on Site Docs (hazard assessments, toolbox talks, incident
reports, etc.).
Designate/communicate with safety representative on site.
Report stop work orders/accidents in conjunction with COR and Labor
Standards.
Analyze, manage and mitigate risks/potential hazards.
Must remain sober at all times and abstain from using any illegal/legal
drugs and/or alcohol when on L&A job sites or during business hours.

Human Resources Duties:
Tracking and reporting job hours per employee including clocking your team
members in and out on the correct sites on a daily basis.
Request for more employees according to the Hiring Procedure.
Obtain time off approval for labourer/installer via Manager (48 hours notice
required for notification of appointments).
On site orientation completed for new employees.
Supervisor reviews for labourer/installer biannually.
Ensure company rules, safety rules and the law are being followed.
Follow progressive discipline procedure for labourer/installers (verbal
warning, written warning, send home).

On Site Project Management:
Assist Manager with daily scheduling.
Complete required field paperwork (safety paperwork).
Upload daily progress pictures of each job site to Google Photos shared
albums.
Read and understand blueprints.
Communicate with your team to ensure they understand the scope of work
and are meeting expectations and deadlines from management.
Communicate with management to ensure Site Docs locations are created
and blueprints/colors are available prior to start of work.
Monitor material usage and check accuracy of material on site deliveries.
Communicate with management when consumables are depreciating on
site and in trailers.
Ensure materials required to complete the project are on site prior to
starting work and stored in acceptable conditions. Communicate with
management if required materials are missing.
Ensure tools are being used/managed in a responsible and safe manner.
Being respectful and professional when working on site with other
subtrades, contractors, site supervisors and customers.
Communication and compliance with prime contractor and site supervisor.
Supervise labourer/installers to monitor quality control.
Delegate daily duties and tasks to labourer/installers.
Set daily project priorities and take 15 minutes prior to end of day to prepare
for the following work day.
Attend weekly Team Leader meetings if required (communicate with
manager).
Follow equipment preventative maintenance and repair procedure in
conjunction with the Manager (including lock out tag out).
Working with management to hit daily/weekly/monthly targets.

Training & Certification:
Oversee and follow up with spot checks to ensure they are following L&A’s
safety practices and procedures.
Training and communicating on how to complete tasks in a safe and
efficient manner.
Continually train labourer/installers to ensure advancement.
Request training for labourer/installers as required.
Actively training Lead Hand in Supervisor role as outlined in Lead Hand job
description.

Performance Targets:
25 sq. ft. of vertical steel siding including trims and flashings per man hour.
30 sq. ft. of horizontal steel siding including trims and flashings per man
hour.
30 sq. ft. of board and batten including trims and flashings per man hour.
40 sq. ft. of 8 ¼” lap siding including trims and flashings per man hour.
100 sq. ft. of single layer paper including green cap staples including
windows and flashings per man hour.
150 sq. ft. of single layer paper (standard install) including windows and
flashings per man hour.

Carry out any other tasks required by the managers/owners.
