ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR / GROUNDSKEEPER POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR / GROUNDSKEEPER

Reports to: President / Vice President of Operations / General Manager

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the President and/or Vice President of Operations or General Manager, the Assistant Supervisor/Groundskeeper is responsible for the cleaning & general repair/maintenance of the entire facility and grounds. They are required to work independently, and with general direction being available from the General Manager and Norwood Executive board.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: this position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the tasks which may be found in this position.

Supervises and organizes work at the centre when the General Manager is away.
Assists with negotiating and administration of service contracts, hall rentals, field, rink and parking rentals.
Over sees work done by outside contractors.
Over sees the staff in cleaning and maintenance of the building as listed below.

MAINTENANCE OF BUILDINGS:
1) Determine the need, and carry out the repairing of tables, chairs, doors, hinges, etc., as required or enlist contractors to carry out the work.
2) Maintain and clean entire building and grounds.
3) All other maintenance duties as required or assigned by General Manager.
4) Ensure that the property is always clean and a safe environment.

CLEANING DUTIES: Work with the staff to ensure
1) Clean building after all functions – wash tables, chairs, empty garbage, clean floors, washrooms, etc.
2) Cleans and maintains the kitchen and Canteen areas weekly. Cleaning as needed to ensure proper maintenance of the areas. This includes the cleaning of appliances, floors, walls (as needed), doors, etc.
3) Cleaning of dressing rooms daily when in use.
4) Ensure outside entrances are free of ice and snow.
5) Wash all bathrooms, doors and walls regularly (weekly and as needed).
6) Clean all glass regularly.
7) Defrost fridges and freezers when required.
8) Clean all major appliances regularly.
9) Soda machines in bars cleaned weekly or after use.
10) Set up tables and chairs as required (SOCIAL FUNCTIONS, All Rentals).
11) Prepare bar (clean if needed) order supplies as needed.
12) Report and order any needed supplies to General Manager.

ICE MANTAINANCE
1) Starting with freeze up, flooding both rinks daily until a minimum of 3 to 4 inches of ice.
2) Regular scraping and flooding of ice as per rink schedule.
3) Snow and Ice removal from both parking lots, walkways, doorways.
4) Salting of all walkways and entrances

OFFICE DUTIES
1) Receives deliveries.
2) Receives salespersons if General Manager is not available.
3) Receives telephone calls, check answering machine.
4) Other duties as required based on operational needs.
5) Always ensure your attitude is consistent with the ideals & feel of Norwood Community Centre Board and its members.
6) Ensures that all rental events are of an appropriate nature for the community centre.
7) Monitor pop, plastic cups, etc. for inventory levels and assist with ordering.
8) Attend regular monthly meeting when required and submit GM Report if GM is away.
9) Prepare information for Audit, and any other material for AGM, Attend AGM every October.
10) Ensure that all reports are summited on time to City of Winnipeg.
11) Apply for any grants, green team, reno, sports etc.
12) Submits payroll to bookkeeper and GCWCC on time.

HOURS
Standard work week will be to a maximum of 20 hours; however, hours may increase depending on seasonal needs and events planed at the Centre but not to exceed 35 hours unless agreed to by the General Manager.
Shifts may very from days, evenings and weekends as needed to meet event requirements and programing.
