DUTIES

  • The Nursery Assistant is an integral member of the horticultural team responsible for maintaining the nursery plant collection at the Memorial University Botanical Garden. Under the direct supervision of the Nursery Manager, the Nursery Assistant will assist with the maintenance of the plant collection and maintain a high standard of horticultural excellence. Duties include all principles of plant propagation; site and soil preparation, sowing, planting, transplanting, fertilizing, weeding, pest management, mulching, watering, and pruning; assisting with plant installations; maintaining greenhouses, cold houses and other plant propagation facilities; working with volunteers in various horticultural tasks; maintaining and safely operating a wide range of hand tools and power tools; and performing other related duties as required. The incumbent will be required to operate small and large equipment and vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience (3-5 years) in propagation and garden maintenance; graduation from an accredited horticultural institution or program; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience in tree propagation in a nursery environment is an asset.

SALARY $56,212 – $65,938 per annum (Non- Bargaining)
